Poetic reflection by Hilla Steinert:

ONE BODY

We enter the room one at a time. One minute lies between us. Time, us in it, it with us. Outside, the audience. Waiting. We slip through the gap. 12 bodies, 24 hands and feet, 12 visions. What connects us?  What does ONE BODY mean? Where is the journey going?

A wall of people. The audience. Another gap. Two walk through, very slowly. In black coat and draped all over with colourful wool. Nomads. The beginning of the migration.

One stands. A roll of paper in one hand and a braid of dried grass in the other. Layers. Holding the space as it moves away.

The others come, populate the empty space, spread out.

the paper

crackles as it is knotted together and smoothed out again. Stacking, it keeps its shape, light and stable, fragile wall. Pushing it away with the feet.

let go

balancing on the fingertips, two at a time, together, writhing, a fish in the vastness of the ocean, an island of glasses, water and poison.

salt on paper. Trickling. Tearing of paper and cloth.

touch

hand to shoulder, hand to hand, back to back.

merge

eye to eye. Carrying. Gliding. Lying. Being buried. Earth on head, hair and body. Wet and heavy.

the landscape

red, white, blue and black. Earth, salt and milk. Cloth and paper. Figures. Paths. Routes. Walking, blurring, drawing, resting, throwing. White where it falls.

space, vastness, time.

and then the end, the withdrawal, the tribe moves on, there is no end, there is no end, there is no end…..
